Text: Sometimes I wish for a wide, night sky to stretch out in.... My days feel too neat and attacked, like parcels of time and activity. I miss the kind of flow that comes from not planning the next piece before this one is finished. But is any kind of sprawl possible when work is in the mix? I know too many people for whom time sheets or job shifts are the only packages-- on or off, like binary. My heart hardly computes that way! It is meant for rhythm, not regiment. Oh, God-- I find myself on concrete streets, in seat belts, on metal chairs, and wonder where the rhythm went. I contain creativity in hours or parts of days: Then I'll paint from 9 to 10, or Tuesday afternoon I'll save a slot. How can that honor the eternity echoed by creative acts? God, please help me find ways to flow within the necessary boundedness. Help me to root out and dispel unneeded restrictions-- especially the ones I can feel but cannot see. Only you can lead me into right rhythm, into the deeper wisdom within me. Guide me to the wide, night sky.
